I decided to take this entire week off from work and relax at home on a staycation. A staycation is the equivalent of a vacation except you stay at home indulging in home based activities without traveling overseas. Below are some of the things I like to do when I decide to opt out of vacating somewhere during this time of the year.
1. GOING TO THE GYM
This is one thing I look forward to on a staycation. The ability to workout everyday consistently. I struggle balancing my workout regime with work everyday. When I get off work, I barely have energy to put into a good workout so I often find my self skipping the gym. BAD HABIT! However, on a staycation, there is no excuse not to go to the gym. Plus, I enjoy working out in the morning hours so this always works out for me.
2. HOLIDAY SHOPPING
It is the holiday season which calls for lots of shopping and maxing credit cards. I like shopping during this time of the year because I get to take advantage of the insane sales. These fuel my adrenaline. While on a staycation, I love to shop till I drop. I know this is not a good idea but having all this time on my hands gives me a chance to do all my Christmas shopping hustle free. I get to buy all my gifts, wrap them up and not worry about last-minute shopping.
3. WINTER SPORTS
I’m not big on winter sports (skiing, ice skating etc) because I’m actually horrible at them. Each attempt I make, I always end up bruised and miserable. Participating in winter sports is a great activity to add to a staycation itinerary. It is also a great way to spend time with family and friends. Most hometowns have ice skating rinks which makes it convenient for many. Sports like skiing, sledding and snow boarding require to drive to winter resorts that have “fake” snow. Worth a shot!
4. BINGE WATCHING
I’m a sucker for binge watching, I mean who isn’t? It is the best way to enjoy a staycation if you are not an out doorsy person. Netflix and Chill or catching up on new shows on cable is a great way to binge on some good TV shows and movies.
5. PLANNING NEW YEAR GOALS
I have used this staycation to plan my goals for 2018. Planning goals with a clear agenda helps you to focus and horn in on to goals that are tangible and are achievable. No matter how you set or plan your goals, this is the perfect time to jot them down.
6. COOKING HOLIDAY FAVORITES
I like to call myself the main chef of the house aside from my mom who loves to turn the kitchen down literally. Let’s be real, when you are enjoying your staycation, the last thing you need is a house without food. Holiday favorites to be specific. I like to make hot chocolate with marshmallows, bake holiday cookies etc. I also look up newer recipes each year to add a few additions to my cookbook.
7. HANGING OUT WITH FAMILY
This is always the highlight of my staycation. Family is everything to me therefore I cherish days off from work because I get to spend more time with my family. I like to create activities that get the family engaged and excited .
8. SELF REFLECTING
At the end of each year, I like to self reflect that is reminiscing on what I have accomplished in the year. Self reflecting helps you when setting goals for the coming year. It is extremely helpful when trying to identify ways to better oneself.
9. HOSTING HOLIDAY PAJAMA PARTIES
Jammie parties are the best during this time of the year. I have never hosted one however I plan to in the near future. Inviting all your girlfriends over for a holiday pajama party is a great way to enjoy a staycation turning up at home. I can’t wait to start hosting these because I will cook all my favorite bites and make yum adult beverages for my girls.
10. VISIT LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Whether it is visiting a museum or going to a fireworks show, there’re always many holiday activities in different home towns. This year in my hometown, there was a fireworks show with free warm cider and marshmallows for the public up until Christmas. It was lots of fun.
